Exports of Egyptian ceramics record $52 million in 2024 reaching 65 countries

Egypt’s ceramic industry demonstrated resilience in the face of global economic uncertainties during the first half of 2024, achieving robust export performance across a wide range of international markets.

According to data released by the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractories and Metallurgical Industries, the value of Egyptian ceramic exports reached $52 million between January and June. While this figure represents a 26% decrease compared to the same period in 2023, it is a commendable achievement considering the challenging economic climate.

Egyptian ceramic products found their way to customers in at least 65 countries worldwide, with the Middle East and North Africa region emerging as the primary market. Libya emerged as the top buyer, accounting for 27% of total exports with a value of $20.5 million. Jordan and Sudan followed closely, securing 7% and 7.5% of the market share respectively.

Beyond the immediate neighborhood, Eastern Europe and the Levant demonstrated growing interest in Egyptian ceramics. Romanian imports increased by 7% to reach $3.75 million, reflecting Egypt’s expanding presence in the European Union. Lebanon also showcased strong demand, with imports rising by 10% to $3.426 million. This trend underscores the success of Egypt’s efforts to diversify its export markets.

Factors Driving Export Success

Several factors have contributed to the sustained growth of Egypt’s ceramic exports. The country’s strategic geographic location offers a competitive advantage in terms of proximity to key markets in the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. Furthermore, the ceramic industry’s commitment to research and development, coupled with its skilled workforce, has enabled it to produce high-quality products that meet international standards.

A Promising Outlook

As the global economy navigates ongoing challenges, the Egyptian ceramic industry remains optimistic about its future prospects. By continuing to invest in innovation, expanding its market reach, and building upon its reputation for quality, Egypt is well-positioned to further strengthen its position as a leading exporter of ceramic products.
